End of Abyss has 10 Suit Mods. You start with Vitality Enhancer Mk.I, Radiation Protection is picked up in Factory East B2, and the other eight are locked in Vaults that each take a Vault Key. You get eight Vault Keys: five from story bosses and three from optional bosses. Equip mods at a Restoration Pod; each costs Suit Power, which Energy Cells raise. Radiation Protection is the only mandatory one, and the late-game Experimental Core needs the Incinerator plus Level II and III Access cards. Opening every Vault earns Dungeon Crawler.

Effects and Suit Power costs are as listed in the game's equipment menu, collected by Game Rant. Guides disagree on a few floor labels for the Vitality Enhancer Mk.II and Proximity Sensor Vaults; the routes below get you there either way.
Suit Power, Energy Cells and Vault Keys
- Suit Power is the budget for equipped mods. Each mod has a cost from 1 to 4, and you can only wear mods whose total fits your Suit Power.
- Energy Cells each add 1 Suit Power. They sit in large item boxes around the facility, including Maintenance F2, Reactor B3 and Waterworks B3, and fan wikis count six.
- Restoration Pods in safe rooms are where you swap mods. The workbench next to them is only for weapons and crafting.
- Vault Keys are generic: any key opens any Vault. Five come from the story bosses (Husk Cluster, Centipede Husk, Security Sentinel, Drowned Husk, Radiation Host) and three from the optional Brood Keeper, Severed Husk Centipede and Morgue Dweller.
Because there are exactly eight Vaults and eight keys, opening every Vault means beating all three optional bosses. The boss guide shows where each one is.
Early mods: Equipment Belt, Heal Amplifier, Blast Resistance
Equipment Belt (Habitation Sector F1)
The Vault is at the end of the hall near the room where you unlock the Habitation Sector's shuttle entrance. It only needs a Vault Key, so it is usually the first mod players buy into. More grenades and flares pays off in every boss fight.
Heal Amplifier (Reactor B4)
Open the Energy Node door in the south-east corner of Reactor B3, go down to B4 and follow the path to the Vault in the north-west corner. Expect a lockdown encounter on the way. The longer heal animation makes it risky mid-fight, so use it with a roll first.
Blast Resistance (Factory West F2)
Go to the south-west room and blow open the weak west wall with an Explosive Charge; the Vault is behind it. The Scanner tags the wall. See all secrets for how weak walls look.
Radiation Protection: the mod you cannot skip
Without it, radiation in the Containment Sector drains your health too fast to progress. It costs 4 Suit Power, so collect enough Energy Cells first.
- After the Drowned Husk and the Waterworks SCU, drain the pool in the far east room of Waterworks B3 and follow the path to the Containment Sector.
- Pick up the Basement Keycard next to the extendable bridge, extend the bridge and head west into Factory East.
- Take the ladder down to F1, go east and take the stairs to B1, then the north-west stairs down to B2.
- Use the Basement Keycard on the lockdown room and survive the ambush (a Husk Brute and infected workers).
- The mod is on the ground in the small room to the west. Equip it at a Restoration Pod.
The Radiation Host guide covers the boss this mod leads to.
Late mods: Acid Neutralizer, Proximity Sensor, Vitality Enhancer Mk.II
Acid Neutralizer (Waterworks B4)
- On Waterworks B3, go to the west end of the rushing-water corridor, take the north door and use the Grappling Hook to cross to a machine room. Pull the west lever.
- Pull the lever in the room east of the Overflow Well to drain the water, then use the Pump Station terminal.
- Take the ladder south of the terminal room down to B4 and enter the east room for the Vault.
Proximity Sensor (Containment Sector)
In the south-east room of Containment Sector F1, burn the Parasitic growth with the Incinerator, open the hatch it was hiding and climb down to the Vault. This mod makes the Scanner react near hidden objects, which helps with Data Shards and secrets.
Vitality Enhancer Mk.II (Communication Center)
It opens up after the third SCU starts the Central Elevator. Go back to Communication Center F1, enter the newly opened north-east room, go down the ladder to B2 and head west to the Vault. At 4 Suit Power it competes with Radiation Protection, so swap them once you leave the Containment Sector.
Endgame mods: Auto-Defibrillator and Experimental Core
Auto-Defibrillator (Infirmary B1)
- In Lower Levels F1, go to the room south of where you got the Incinerator and burn the Parasitic growth for the Infirmary Access Keycard.
- Take the Habitation Sector shuttle, head east into the Infirmary and find the Restricted Access Keycard in a small side room.
- Use it on the north door, go down to B1 and head to the far west side for the Vault.
Update 1.012 fixed a freeze when this mod revived you while still taking damage. The Morgue Dweller optional boss is on the same floor.
Experimental Core (Lower Levels F1)
- Burn the Parasitic growth just east of the south-east elevator on Lower Levels F1, go south then west, and open the floor hatch.
- Crawl through the vent to a sealed room and take Level II Access from a body.
- In the north-east hallway, use Level II on the south-east door and climb to F2. Go north, then west: Level III Access is at the top of a short staircase.
- Back in the hatch room, use Level III on the south-east door and go down to the Vault.
The game only describes the Experimental Core as corrupted data, and its 4 Suit Power cost makes it a late experiment rather than a must-have. The same Level III card opens the room with the Cryptograph, which unlocks the cheat codes.
Which mods to equip
| Situation | Suggested mods |
|---|---|
| Early game | Vitality Enhancer Mk.I + Equipment Belt |
| Containment Sector | Radiation Protection, plus Equipment Belt if it fits |
| Boss fights | Vitality Enhancer Mk.II + Equipment Belt; Auto-Defibrillator once you have it |
| Exploring for secrets | Proximity Sensor + Equipment Belt |
Pair this with the tier list and best upgrades. Since update 1.016, crafting is cheaper, so the Equipment Belt's extra grenade capacity is worth even more.
Frequently asked questions
Are there PC mods for End of Abyss?
No official mod support has been announced for the Epic Games Store version. "Mods" in End of Abyss almost always means the in-game Suit Mods on this page.
Can you miss a Suit Mod?
No. Every Vault can be reached by backtracking before the final boss. Just make sure you also beat the three optional bosses, or you will be short of Vault Keys.
Does a Vault Key open a specific Vault?
No. Keys are interchangeable, so open whichever Vault gives you the most useful mod first.
What is the Dungeon Crawler achievement?
It unlocks when you have opened every Vault and collected all of their Suit Mods.
