Confirmed weapons so far are the pulse pistol (infinite ammo that recharges, with a charged shot), a limited-ammo shotgun for close-range damage and knockback, grenades, flares that distract enemies, and a C4-like explosive charge unlocked later. The pistol and shotgun can be upgraded at workbenches, and previewers say a wider arsenal unlocks in the full game.
All confirmed weapons and tools
The full arsenal will only be known after launch. Game Informer's previewer said they believed there is a whole arsenal of weapons to unlock. The following weapons and tools were confirmed by several press demos.
| Weapon or tool | Type | Ammo | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pulse pistol | Primary, starting weapon | Infinite, recharges | Precise shots; hold fire for a charged shot |
| Shotgun | Secondary | Limited, craftable | Heavy close-range damage and knockback |
| Grenades | Throwable | Limited, craftable | Tap for a close throw, hold for a far one |
| Flares | Throwable utility | Limited, craftable | Light dark areas and distract enemies |
| Explosive charge | Tool and weapon | Limited | C4-like device that opens weak walls |
Martin Cid Magazine also mentions melee tools as part of the arsenal, but no preview has described how they work. They are not included in the table until confirmed.
Pulse pistol
The pulse pistol is your starting weapon and is always equipped. Previewers call it the energy pistol, plasma gun or pulse rifle. Its ammo is infinite: it drains as you fire and recharges automatically. GameSpot compared the recharge to a kind of stamina bar.
Holding fire charges a powerful shot. Xbox Wire noted that releasing it temporarily stops you from shooting, so timing matters. Game Informer's previewer liked charging it before entering a room, and every previewer relied on it most of the time.
On its own it is not especially strong. Its value is that you never run out, which makes it the weapon to upgrade first. The official audio team confirmed it is designed as an energy or plasma weapon rather than a projectile gun.
Shotgun
The shotgun is the first secondary weapon previewers found. It deals heavy close-range damage and has knockback. Xbox Wire called it necessary for tougher enemies and for managing crowds.
Its ammo is limited, and it fires slowly. GameSpot said every shot needs to count, and Game Informer treated it as an emergency option. Character artist Olivia said shotgun blasts can blow the heads off creatures. You can craft more shells at the workbench.
Grenades
Grenades are thrown with a single input that changes with how long you press it. Tap it for a close toss, or hold it for a longer throw. They are effective against groups.
MonsterVine warned that careless throws can hurt you, which matters in the tight corridors where most fights happen. Grenades are craftable and refillable at workbenches.
Flares
Flares light up dark areas and distract some enemies, which are drawn to their red light. GameSpot used them to pull creatures away, then either shoot them or run past. That makes flares both a combat tool and a way to avoid fights.
They are also craftable at workbenches. Previewers consistently mention them as cheap insurance.
Explosive charge
The explosive charge is a C4-like device that Shacknews says is unlocked later. Game Informer's previewer set one as a remote bomb. Its main role is progression: it blasts open weak walls that the Scanner has identified.
The developers confirmed explosives are used to blast holes in vulnerable walls, often hiding secrets. See all secrets.
Non-weapon tools
- Scanner: reveals weak walls, enemy patterns and what doors need. See the Scanner guide.
- Grappling hook: reaches anchor points and pulls levers to open passages.
- Flashlight: lights dark areas, usually deeper basement levels.
Weapon upgrades
Shacknews confirmed both the pistol and shotgun were upgradeable in the demo. Upgrades are bought at workbenches with fragments, the crafting currency collected from enemy bodies, chests and the environment. Workbenches also sell ammo, consumables and new equipment.
The full upgrade tree and costs have not been published. See best upgrades for early priorities, and the tier list for which weapons to lean on.
Using each weapon well
Previewers settled into a clear rhythm with the demo arsenal. Most fights happen in small rooms and tight corridors, so the right tool depends on distance and numbers.
| Situation | Best choice |
|---|---|
| Entering an unknown room | Charged pulse pistol shot |
| A single tough enemy up close | Shotgun |
| A group at range | Grenade (hold for a longer throw) |
| An enemy you want to avoid | Flare to lure it away |
| A weak wall | Explosive charge |
| A dark area | Flare or flashlight |
Scanning a new enemy first tells you its behaviour pattern, which helps pick the right option.
