The short answer

No. End of Abyss is a single-player game. The Xbox Store lists it as single player and the PlayStation Store lists it as 1 player, and there is no local or online co-op. You play alone as Cel through the whole facility. There is also no New Game+ mode at launch.

The PlayStation Store notes that online play is "optional", which refers to network features such as cloud streaming with PlayStation Plus Premium, not to playing with other people.

Why it is single-player

Section 9 Interactive built End of Abyss as an isolated survival horror experience: Cel is separated from her team and explores the abandoned facility alone. Its tension depends on limited ammo, darkness and silence, which a second player would undercut. Read more about who Cel is.

Three themes: exploration through routes and tools, combat through aiming and evasion, and atmosphere through light and sound.

  • New Game+: not available at launch. GamingTrend listed its absence as a minor criticism, and no patch has added it yet. See the patch notes.
  • Crossplay: not applicable, because there is no multiplayer.
  • Cross-save: no cross-save between PlayStation, Xbox and Epic has been announced.
  • Mods: Section 9 Interactive has not announced official mod support for the Epic Games Store version. See the PC page.

Playing alongside friends

The closest thing to a shared experience is pass-the-controller play or comparing routes and secrets. The facility rewards notes: share Scanner finds and hidden areas using the all secrets guide, and race each other on the how long to beat times.
