The short answer

End of Abyss is an Unreal Engine 5 game, and its project folder is named EndOfAbyss. Unreal games keep saves under your local AppData, so look in %LOCALAPPDATA%\EndOfAbyss\Saved\SaveGames (the files end in .sav). Paste the path into the Windows Run box (Win+R) to open it. Copy the whole SaveGames folder somewhere safe before installing PC mods or changing game files.

Checked October 17, 2026. The folder name comes from the game's own files: Nexus mod authors install into EndOfAbyss\Content\Paks, and the executable sits in EndOfAbyss\Binaries\Win64. Unreal Engine titles store saves and settings in the matching AppData folder by default. PCGamingWiki's entry does not list the path yet, so if your folder is missing, use the search method below.

Find the folder in under a minute

  1. Close the game.
  2. Press Win+R, paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\EndOfAbyss\Saved and press Enter.
  3. Open SaveGames. The newest .sav file is the save you played last.
  4. Not there? Open %LOCALAPPDATA% and search for *.sav, or sort by date modified after a play session.

AppData is hidden in File Explorer by default. Typing the variable into the Run box or the address bar skips that.

Back up before mods, patches or a reinstall

  • Copy the whole SaveGames folder, not one file, and date the copy.
  • Back up before installing any community mod, especially ones that change crafting or upgrades.
  • Uninstalling through Epic usually leaves AppData in place, but a manual copy costs nothing.
  • To restore, close the game and paste the copy back over SaveGames.

A backup is also insurance for the secret ending: keep a copy from before the final boss so you can replay the last fight, and for the cheat codes, because switching a code on disables achievements on that save.

Epic cloud saves and consoles

Sources disagree on Epic cloud saves. The Epic Games Store listing includes Cloud Saves as a feature, but PCGamingWiki currently marks Epic Games Launcher sync as unsupported. Until that is settled, keep a manual copy rather than relying on the launcher.

PS5 and Xbox Series X|S saves live on the console and use each platform's own cloud backup (PlayStation Plus on PS5, automatic Xbox cloud saves on Xbox). Console saves cannot be moved to the PC version. More on the versions: PC, PS5, Xbox.

Yes. A new game starts from scratch, and nothing carries over; see New Game+.

Restore your most recent backup and check the patch notes; early patches fixed several save and map-progress bugs.
